چکیده

ABSTRACT In January 2001, while conducting a survey of the tick fauna of the State of Rondĵnia, Brazil, a rural area within Monte Negro county was visited. On one farm within the county the producer maintained a herd of crossbred swine, Sus scrofa L., that was reared under unconfined conditions, with unrestrained access to the pasture and adjacent native Amazon equatorial forest. Inspection of the swine herd produced a total of 77 ticks collected from eight adult pigs (mean, 9.6 ticks per pig) that were identified as Amblyomma naponense (Packard) (26 males, eight females), A. oblongoguttatum Koch (five males, three females), A. ovale Koch (one female) and A. scalpturatum Neumann (one male). One Amblyomma larva and 32 Amblyomma nymphs also were collected from the pigs. Of these, six nymphs were reared in the laboratory until they reached the adult stage, one being an A. oblongoguttatum female and five being A. scalpturatum females.

Redescription of the larva of Amblyomma oblongoguttatum Koch, 1844 (Acari: Ixodidae) by light and scanning electron microscopy

The larval stage of Amblyomma oblongoguttatum Koch is redescribed using optical and scanning electron microscopy. Unfed larvae were obtained from a colony of A. oblongoguttatum originated from engorged females collected on domestic pigs from Monte Negro municipally (10°29’S, 63°32’W), State of Rondônia, Western Amazon, Brazil. Several characters are presented including the chaetotaxy of the idi...

Notes on population dynamics of Amblyomma ticks (Acari: Ixodidae) in Brazil.

Previous population dynamics data, generated for Amblyomma parvum Aragão and Amblyomma cajennense (Fabricius) in Argentina and southeastern Brazil, have indicated that these ticks complete 1 generation per year, with larvae predominating in autumn, nymphs in winter, and mostly adults during spring and summer. The present study reports population dynamics data for free-living Amblyomma spp. tick...

Identification of Tick Species Collected from Wild Boars and Habitats of Wild Boars and Domestic Pigs in the Republic of Korea

Tick is one of the most important arthropods in the transmission of vector-borne diseases. In this study, we investigated the abundance and species of ticks associated with swine and their habitats to assess the risk of spread of tick-borne diseases in host species, such as wild boars. Ticks were collected from 24 grazing or traditionally reared domestic pig farms and 8 habitats of wild boars i...
